Midwifes offer check-ups and consultation during pregnancy. The extend can vary and can be scheduled individually.
The midwife-consultation between the 18. - 22. week of pregnancy within the “Mutter-Kind-Pass” is covered by the insurance. If booked with a private midwife it will cost € 67,-, which will be refunded in total.
In some hospitals you have the option to be accompanied by a private midwife (“Wahlhebamme”). In this case this midwife will be there for you throughout the whole birth.
Included are appointments during the pregnancy, on-call-service beginning 3 weeks before and up to 2 weeks after the estimated due date, birth itself and the visits after birth. Some offer services with 2 midwifes or as a team.
No matter, how long you are staying in the hospital, you are entitled to get care of a midwife. The midwife can come home to you within the first 5 days (after a C-section, premature birth or twins 6 days) every day. After this time there is the possibility for further 7 appointments within the first 8 weeks (with C-section, preemie or twins the first 12 weeks).
Since 1.9.2024, women who suffer a miscarriage after the 18th week of pregnancy can also make use of midwife care. The midwife can visit you every day for the first 5 days. After that, a further 7 home visits are possible in the first 8 weeks after the pregnancy loss.
Appointments are available and most often used as home visits, but are also available as telemedical visits. Additionally, up to 5 telephone calls are partially refundable.
